Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour

14 Days

The Annapurna Circuit is one of Nepal’s, if not the world’s, most famous trail. Cycling on this incredible trail is once-in-a lifetime experience. This incredible adventure takes you to some of Nepal’s most beautiful and unusual cycling trails. The Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike trip, also referred to as Annapurna Base Camp cycling (ABC cycling), takes us through a diverse range of scenery, including rich subtropical rainforest, deep valleys, and cultivated fields, as well as wooded alpine and high deserts. We explore a variety of towns, meet indigenous hill tribes, and take in stunning vistas of gigantic Himalayan peaks such as the Annapurna and Manaslu.

This classic Annapurna Circuit cycling tour is a breathtakingly gorgeous and interesting journey. Deep gorges, desolate high mountain routes, Buddhist temples, charming farming towns, and all of the Annapurna Massif’s major peaks, all of these beauties can be witnessed during the Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour.

We pass through lowland settlements, dense oak forests, deep gorges, and picturesque isolated hamlets on our way to the Tilicho Lake, one of the highest altitude fresh water lakes in the world. To cap it off, climbing the Thorung La pass (5,416m) is a difficult climb through some of the world’s most breathtaking mountain scenery.

Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour Highlights

  • One of the most iconic circuit treks in the world.
  • Kang La (5320m) and Throng La (5416m), the two high pass crossings.
  • Muktinath Temple, a Hindu temple located in the heart of Muktinath valley.
  • Breathtaking mountain vistas of Mustang and Western Tibet.
  • The Chame – Manang trail  is really magnificent. The valley opens up, and the track is smooth and flowy for some portions, making for excellent riding.
  • Along the way, there are several hot springs. The majority of them are identified by a sign that reads “Tatopani.” It’s the ideal way to get rid of the dust and relax your sore muscles.
  • Daal Bhat and Milk Tea.
  • Focus your gaze on Manaslu (8156m), the world’s seventh tallest peak.

*We can also trek on this iconic Annapurna Circuit. Do check out our detailed itinerary of the Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Join us for a warm-up ride across the Kathmandu Valley's finest trails; test your bikes and gear to ensure they're ready for the trip ahead. We will cover roughly 40km at a steady pace in 3 to 4 hours of riding, touring the rural portions of the valley, single tracks, and sightseeing at various temples, before returning to Thamel for lunch, last-minute bike adjustments, and trip shopping.

We meet for tea at our office early in the morning and then load up the bicycles for the 5-hour trip to Besishar. We take a break along the route to soak in the scenery and have some lunch. When we arrive in Besishar, we spend some time exploring the town before meeting our porters and finalizing our travel plans.

Today we will ride a little over 1000 meters uphill that takes us along the river; it's a lovely stretch of the route that is completely rideable along the Marsyandi River. Tal has some beautiful landscapes, including steep-sided valleys terraced with farms and tiny communities. Tal is located in a steep gorge with numerous flowing waterfalls to be seen along the journey.

This is one of the longest and most difficult sections of the trail due to a difficult climb. The terrain is challenging but enjoyable. This segment has beautiful jungle and river scenery, so take it easy and enjoy the ride.

The trail continues to climb, but when it widens back into a 4×4 track, it becomes more rideable. As you ride through the jungle and into the parched alpine region, you'll enjoy amazing views of the Himalaya. It's a good idea to go slow and steady at first to allow your body to adjust.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Give yourself a day to acclimate and prepare for the upcoming challenges. Short treks can be taken to explore the surrounding area, visit high altitude lakes, and relax and unwind in Manang. You'll be heading into actual mountain wilderness from here.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Today's ascent from Manang to Throng Phedi is short and easy; take your time to observe the scenery. There are a few sections where you'll have to carry your bike, but the trail is otherwise rideable.

Early in the morning, you'll have to carry and push your bike up more than 1300 meters to Throng La, one of the most difficult aspects of the trip that will test any mountain biker's true character and enthusiasm as you battle the altitude and the cold. However, you will not only be breathing hard, but also breathing heavily in awe as this section of the journey rewards you with magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains from Throng La and superb technical downhill on the other side that will have you grinning from ear to ear, or if you're a little nervous, possibly browning your trousers! You will, however, be greeted with a hearty welcome at Muktinath.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Leaving Muktinath behind, we climb the hillside through a short, little-used walking track, with a small amount of push as we ascend to Dhangladanda, from where you can see beautiful Himalayan views. Following that is a fantastic section of switchback single tracks that leads down to the Lupra Valley riverbed. Return to the main route and make your way to Jomsom for lunch. It can be difficult to ride with the wind, but take time to admire the scenery along the journey. The walk leads to Tukuche, a charming old riverside town.

Take some time to stroll through the cobblestone streets and learn about the Thakali culture. We spend the night in a well-equipped German Bakery. Apple Brandy is a local product that makes a great nightcap to unwind your mind and body after a long day on the bike.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

The trail begins gently and flat, winding in and out of valley sides, passing through pine forests and little settlements. The vistas of the snow-capped peaks are spectacular as you follow the river. We can have some lunch at the magnificent waterfall at Rukse Chaahara. After this, the path speeds up as it descends 1000 meters through sweeping curves and plunges, rocky portions, and bumps that you will enjoy. Arrive in Tatopani, a cobblestone-lined hamlet known for its healing Hot Springs. Once you've arrived at Tatopani, have a relaxing dip in the Hot Springs, and perhaps a local massage or a cold beer won't hurt either!

Overnight stay at the hotel.

As we leave the Annapurna Region, we take a 25-kilometer ride on an open track that is mostly level with a few up and down slopes. We return to Pokhara by a 4×4 from Beni for a well-deserved break, possibly a beer, a wonderful supper, and some great times out and about!

Overnight stay at the hotel.

From Pokhara, we drive back to Kathmandu and check into the hotel. The rest of the day is free for us to do any last-minute shopping or visit any monuments we missed on our first day in Kathmandu. In the evening, we'll have a goodbye lunch to celebrate the completion of our journey.

Overnight stay at the hotel.
